NCX Brain Recovery

CFX or NCX, what

is the difference?

Learning From Cognitive FX

At NCX Brain Recovery we are big proponents of the work that Cognitive FX has done and is doing. Cognitive FX is one of the foremost Concussion and mTBI research programs in the world. At NCX Brain Recovery our therapy is largely based on research performed and published by Cognitive FX.

Our difference: intensive and ongoing care

NCX Brain Recovery’s Founders, Nate and Justin Pope, after working for many years at Cognitive FX and helping develop protocols for applied therapy, recognized the importance of intensive weeks of therapy, but saw an opportunity to do even more. Therapy is often not linear, easy, and miraculously healing. While we do so incredible results in 1- and 2-week intensive sessions, we still expect to see bumps on the road to recovery. That is why we created an 8-week FREE AFTERCARE program to help guide you back into your life and support you as you implement an ongoing home program. We offer free recharge half-days in the clinic, weekly follow-up calls, and support so you can continue to make gains toward full recovery.

Neurovascular Coupling

Cognitive FX has published some of their results of their studies in the Open Neuroimaging Journal as a “Guided Rehabilitation of Neurovascular Coupling”. In much of their research, they describe the results found through functional MRI’s performed before and after treatment. We rely on their findings that show a positive and significant improvement in the functionality of the brain and the symptoms of post-concussion syndrome after treatment. Cognitive FX has shown through brain imaging that bloodflow can improve and increase to areas of the brain that have been less active following head trauma.
This is called “neuro-vascular coupling”. With the improved bloodflow and neuroconnectivity throughout the brain, the functionality and symptomatic issues that patients experience improve, and many times resolve completely. These are incredible results. The key with these findings is that they validate the effectiveness of the interventions and therapy performed. Two of our Founders at NCX Brain Recovery, Nate and Justin Pope, were part of the therapy team at Cognitive FX for over 13 years combined. Their experience in evaluating symptoms and results of fMRI’s helped them gain invaluable experience in setting up applied therapy using a symptomatic approach. With this experience as our backdrop, we can confidently provide therapy, adjusted for symptoms, to people without the necessity of neuro-imaging. Our greatest strength is therapeutic interventions tailored to each of our clients.

what to do if I have a concussion

So, what is the therapy that provides such dramatic improvements from post-concussion syndrome?

The therapy that we prescribe is similar to Cognitive FX’s guided rehabilitation and is a cycle of activities that encourage reactivation and recovery of a trauma-inhibited brain. Cognitive FX calls it “Prepare, Activate, and Recover” and we call it a Multi-Sensory Intensive. The following gives an explanation of those stages:

Stage 1

Cardio exercise mixed with mild cognitive challenges

Intensive MSI Therapy

Stage 2

Multi-sensory Integration which challenges the brain from all directions pushing the brain to “wake up”

Neuro Evaluation

Stage 3

“Brain break” session that utilizes a mix of active rest and brain waves technology, neuro-muscular massage, Alpha-Wave Stimulation, and restorative interventions

The secret behind the intensive cycle

The Multi-Sensory Integration cycle encourages activation of the areas of the brain that are less active due to Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS). The cycle is repeated many times per day for a full week at a minimum. At Cognitive FX and NCX Brain Recovery, our teams discovered that the secret to this intensive approach is to repeat it over a 5-day week, with even better results over 2 weeks. The brain is powerful and needs many and consistent repetitions and challenges to heal. The daily cycles are designed to engage the brain and cause Neurovascular Coupling (blood flow that engages the function of the brain) while encouraging the development of new neuro-pathways and re-engagement of healthy pathways to rebalance the brain.

Ultimately, each person needs to do their homework and find the right fit for their treatment

We recognize that there are various approaches to heal from post-concussion syndrome. We believe our approach to be one of the very best results-based approaches to make significant improvement from Post-Concussion syndrome. Our greatest strengths are the amount and quality of therapy provided by our expert team, the very personal care and treatment plan given, and the price!

We hope we get to help you heal.
